The one problem I’ve been unable to solve for years: figuring out how to automate the way I listen to music.  When I discovered Sonos, I knew it was the answer. With a single speaker, you can remotely control your entire music library, adjust volume, pair with computer, smart tv, and just about any device. Add another speaker—or five—to your home, and you’ve got sound, music, and convenience in every room. Simply put, Sonos is a total game changer for the world of surround sound, and for wireless music playback.

Design 10

Because it’s not quite a rectangular prism, not quite a cylinder, the actual device is pretty striking—but also discreet. It’s available in either black or white. The controls on the actual speaker are fairly simple with single-touch pause and play plus easy volume control (up and down arrows).

Software 9.3

Sonos device controller is available for mobile, desktop, and tablet. It’s compatible with all the major music providers like Spotify and Google music, as well as something really special: Soundcloud.

For the most part, it’s fairly simple to pair speakers for L and R playback, as well as select which rooms you’d like to play music in, give them names (ex. Living Room, Kitchen, etc.), and group speakers to be played all at once. You can even play different music in different rooms from the same controller app.

Warranty 8.9

While the warranty is limited, it does cover defects in materials and workmanship for up to one year from the ship date. If your Sonos is replaced under warranty, the warranty does not reset unfortunately.

Performance 10

Sonos looks nice, works well, but it’s absolutely clear that Sonos is all about the sound. I was hesitant when first purchasing Sonos because I was unsure about what to expect from the sound quality based on its size and design. This uncertainty was immediately stamped out when I pressed play from my smart phone’s Sonos controller app. Well-rounded sound, deep bass, and perfectly crisp audio from this surprisingly small speaker is the #1 reason why I love my Sonos.

Value 9.8

You get what you pay for with Sonos. You might find a cheaper surround sound with automation similar to Sonos, but it’s not Sonos. The sound, quality, customer support, and overall experience of the product makes it worth the price point. Sonos is the best (almost—there’s still a power cord) wireless surround sound option around.
